UAE Police has arrested 45 people of Asian and Arab origin. These people are accused of begging. Police say that this action will help in curbing those who carry out criminal activities under the guise of beggars.
Abu Dhabi: Begging in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not less than a crime. Recently the police has arrested 45 beggars. The arrested beggars include 28 men, 16 women and a child. The police have taken this action after a week-long inspection campaign to improve the security situation in the country.
Action required for safety
According to the report of 'Khalij Times', this campaign is part of the government's efforts to eradicate this practice of looting people's money. Lt Col Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said: "We attach importance to increasing security in communities, combating any illegal practice that damages the social fabric and peace, and the current action is an example of this."
Begging in different ways
The lieutenant colonel said the Ajman police patrol arrested 45 Asian and Arab beggars of different ages for begging. Al Nuaimi told that all of them were using different methods to beg. Like some were standing as poor and needy, while some were selling goods on the roadside. The senior police officer said that it causes inconvenience and embarrassment to all the people of the society.
Police appeal - don't show sympathy
Lieutenant-Colonel Al Nuaimi appealed to the public not to show sympathy for such beggars and to inform the police about them. He has asked people to donate money to charitable societies instead of these beggars, so that it can reach the needy. The police claim that this action will help in curbing those who carry out criminal activities under the guise of beggars.
