Washington: The US is excited to support India's G-20 presidency next year, the White House said on Wednesday. India on Thursday formally took over the chairmanship of the group of the world's richest economies. "We look forward to supporting India's Presidency of the G20 on a range of issues, including addressing current food and energy security challenges, while continuing our efforts to build a strong global economy," White House Press Secretary Carin Jean-Pierre told reporters at her daily news conference.
Responding to a question on the US President's visit to India next year, he said: "As you have seen, the President has attended the G-20 during his tenure here. Right now, I have no information to tell about the journey. Meanwhile, the White House on Wednesday said the US is looking forward to working with Islamabad on the new army chief taking charge in Pakistan.
Lt Gen Asim Munir formally took charge of the Pakistan Army on Tuesday. "The United States values our long-term cooperation with Pakistan and believes that a prosperous and democratic Pakistan is critical to American interests. "We look forward to working with Pakistan to promote stability, prosperity for the people of Pakistan and the region," he said.
