"You will never be alone": US gives Patriot defense system to Ukraine, Zelensky says -" will not bow down"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a historic address to the US Congress on Wednesday that "Ukraine is alive and fighting."




Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in the US on his first foreign trip since the Russian invasion, has received strong support from the US, including a new missile defense system. President Joe Biden promised Zelensky, "You will never be alone." Zelensky was greeted as a hero in Washington three hundred days after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine. Zelensky also made it clear here that he would not accept any pressure to compromise. Biden placed his hand affectionately on Zelensky's shoulder. "You'll never stand alone," Biden told Zelensky at a joint news conference. The American people are with you at every step of the way and we will be with you. As long as it goes on. Americans understand from the inside that the battle in Ukraine is part of a larger battle. I have no doubt that we will keep the flame of freedom bright and the light will prevail and conquer darkness."


More military aid

The United States announced $1.85 billion from already budgetary funds for Ukraine, including for the first time an advanced Patriot Defense System capable of shooting down cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles. Zelensky lauds US for delivering Patriot system.


Russia said, "The conflict will increase."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the delivery of the new weapons would "escalate the conflict" and not "a good sign for Ukraine". Speaking with senior military officials during a televised address, President Vladimir Putin argued that Moscow could not be blamed for the invasion and agreed with the assessment that Russia needed a large army.  "What is happening is certainly a tragedy - our shared tragedy, but it is not because of us, but it is the result of third-country policy," Putin said.


We will not make any territorial agreement with Russia.

Both Biden and Zelensky said they supported a "just peace" and that they would not make a regional deal with Russia.
