What is the 'Samosa Caucus', which PM Modi mentioned in the US Parliament, then the applause echoed ...

Washington:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first state visit to the US at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, addressed a joint session of the US Congress, which was attended by members of the House of Representatives and Senate. Pm Narendra Modi is the first Indian leader who got the opportunity to address the US Parliament for the second time. During his address, while presenting a blueprint for the bright future of India, PM Narendra Modi mentioned a word pair, which received a lot of applause. Referring to US Vice President Kamala Harris during his speech, he said, "I am told that now the color of 'Samosa Caucus' in the US Parliament has started to rise..."

The mention of 'Samosa Caucus' received a lot of applause in the US Parliament, as everyone present there understood the meaning and context of this word, but the common Indian listening to the speech has to understand the background of the 'Samosa Caucus' so that he can also know its importance. In fact, many years ago in 2016, when some people of Indian origin were elected to the US Parliament for the first time, they all used to meet each other continuously, and they became a club-like. One of these MPs was Raja Krishnamoorthi, elected to the House of Representatives, who named his club 'Samosa Caucus', which means 'group of people who eat and like samosas'. After this, the term 'Samosa Caucus' was commonly used in the US Congress for members of South Asian origin, especially of Indian origin.

Now, kamala harris, a member of this samosa caucus, is the vice president of the US, so Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I am told, Samosa Caucus is now the flavor of the house...", that is, "I am told, now the color of 'Samosa Caucus' has started climbing on the US Parliament..."

Millions of people of Indian origin live in the US, and many of them sit proudly in this Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, pointing to the increasing representation of people of Indian origin in both houses of the US Congress. "One of the many people of Indian origin is sitting behind me," he said, pointing to Kamala Harris, who was sitting behind him during the address. She (Kamala Harris) has made history... And I am told, now the colour of the 'Samosa Caucus' has started climbing the US Parliament..."

Pm Narendra Modi also said, "I hope, like 'samosa', the entire variety of Indian cuisine is in this Parliament..." Along with this, he also mentioned south Indian dish masala dosa and Bengali sweet message. The Samosa Caucus currently comprises six US lawmakers, including Ami Bera, Ro Khanna and Pramila Jayapal. The Samosa Caucus of Indian-origin MPs raises issues that concern the interests of Indians and people of Indian origin, including simplification of immigration policy.
