The decision to declare Diwali a school holiday comes after state lawmakers recently enacted a law designating it as a holiday in the largest school system in the US.
New York: Diwali, the festival of lights, is now going to be a school holiday in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday. Thousands of New York residents celebrate Diwali every year to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, and the announcement was made by state lawmakers recently enacting a law designating it as a holiday in the largest school system in the US.
I'm so proud to have stood with Assemblymember @JeniferRajkumar and community leaders in the fight to make #Diwali a school holiday.
