From now there will be Diwali holiday in New York, Mayor Big Announcement.

The decision to declare Diwali a school holiday comes after state lawmakers recently enacted a law designating it as a holiday in the largest school system in the US.

New YorkDiwali, the festival of lights, is now going to be a school holiday in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday. Thousands of New York residents celebrate Diwali every year to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, and the announcement was made by state lawmakers recently enacting a law designating it as a holiday in the largest school system in the US.

Mayor Eric Adams described the decision as an important victory for local families. "I am very proud to stand with Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar and community leaders in their fight to make Diwali a school holiday. I know it happened at the beginning of the year. Happy Diwali yet."

"I was confident that Governor Kathy Hochul would sign the bill. The decision is yet to be incorporated into law by Governor Kathy Hochul. The new holiday will replace "Brooklyn-Queens Day" on the school holiday calendar.

Following the announcement, Jennifer Rajkumar, a member of the New York State Assembly, tweeted: "Today was my press conference with Mayor Eric Adams at City Hall. I am proud to lead and win the battle to make Diwali a school holiday with Mayor Eric Adams."

"Now we can say that New York is made for everyone. This year Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday, November 12, so for the first time in 2024, there will be a day off from school.
