Tensions continue between the US and Russia over Ukraine. America hopes that if Russia attacks Ukraine, in these circumstances, India will stand with the Biden administration and help it. According to US State Department spokesman Ned Price, the Ukraine dispute was also discussed in the meeting of foreign ministers of Quad held in Melbourne recently. Price praised India and said – India has always insisted on following international laws.
Resolve disputes peacefully
During a conversation with the media on Thursday, Price said - During the Quad meeting, every country said that the solution to the Russia-Ukraine dispute should not be resolved through war, but through diplomacy. Everyone must abide by international law. Be it the case of Indo-Pacific or Europe or any other part of the world. We know that India will support us in every matter that is legally correct. Boundaries should not be changed by force. Big countries have no right to suppress or force small countries. Everyone has the right to choose his partner. Price said this about China and Russia. While talking about the Indo-Pacific Ocean, his direct reference was to China, which threatens smaller countries like the Philippines and Vietnam in this region.
India's most successful diplomacy
Price clearly said that during the Quad meeting, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his counterpart S. There was a lengthy discussion between Jaishankar on defense matters separately. However, he refrained from answering questions on whether the purchase of S-400 missile defense systems from Russia would be subject to sanctions under the Special Act. Actually, what Price didn't say should be understood. The US does not want any tension between India and it on the issue of S-400, because if this happens then both Russia and China will take advantage of it.
What is Russia's dispute with Ukraine?
The eastern part of Ukraine is bordered by Russia. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, most Russian-born people settled in Ukraine. Because of this, mutual coordination between the two countries was better, but in 2014 Viktor Yanukovich, a close aide of Russian President Vladimir Putin, lost power. After the withdrawal of Yanukovich, political tension started in Russia and Ukraine.
Russia then invaded and occupied the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine. Ukraine was given Crimea as a gift by the Supreme Leader of the Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev in 1954. After the Russian occupation of Crimea, Ukraine began to increase friendship with the West. The latest controversy started with the news of Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Angered by speculation that Ukraine would join NATO, Russia deployed millions of troops to the border.
