Iranian state television reported two explosions respectively during an anniversary ceremony at the cemetery in the southeastern city of Kerman, where Soleimani is buried.
More than 70 people were killed in two blasts as part of 'terrorist attacks' in Iran. Iranian officials gave this information on Wednesday. Several people were also injured in these explosions during a ceremony organized in memory of top commander Qasim Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.
Iranian state television reported two explosions respectively during an anniversary ceremony at the cemetery in the southeastern city of Kerman where Soleimani is buried, Reuters reported.
"The explosions were carried out as part of terrorist attacks," state media quoted a local official in Kerman province as saying, later saying Iran's emergency services spokesman Babak Yektaparast said 73 people were killed and 170 wounded.
Semi-official Nor news had previously said that "several gas canisters exploded on the road leading to the cemetery".
State TV showed Red Crescent rescue workers caring for those injured at the ceremony. Hundreds of Iranians had gathered to celebrate Soleimani's death anniversary. Some Iranian news agencies said the number of injured people was much higher.
"Our rapid response teams are evacuating the wounded," Reza Fallah, head of the Kerman Province Red Crescent, told state TV. But the mob has blocked the roads."
